What is Wilson Rating on DeckBeacon?

DeckBeacon Rating is a 0–100 Wilson lower bound on decisive games — not a percentage, not RoyaleAPI's Rating, and not a census.

Rating on DeckBeacon is a 0–100 score derived from a 95% Wilson lower bound on a deck's wins in decisive games (wins + losses; draws out). It is DeckBeacon's own scale. It is not a percentage. It is not RoyaleAPI's Rating, even when the two numbers sit near each other by coincidence.

The point of a lower bound is to punish small samples. A list that won 8 of 10 games has a spectacular raw win rate and a mediocre Wilson score, because 10 games is a coin with a short memory. A list that won 55 of 100 is less exciting and more trustworthy. That is the whole trick.

The unrated dash

The pipeline writes wilsonBasisPoints = 0 when a deck has fewer than 50 decisive games. That zero is a sentinel, not a score of zero. The UI prints an em dash ("—") instead of 0. Printing zero would claim those decks lose every game. They do not; we simply refuse to rate them yet.

If a comparison screenshot shows a flashy win rate next to our dash, they are not the same statistic. Prefer the dash.

Win rate and usage sit beside it, not on top of it

  • Win rate — wins / (wins + losses) in the sample, shown with a % because it actually is a proportion
  • Usage — share of deck appearances in the sample
  • Rating — Wilson, 0–100, no %

Sorting the list by Rating is the default for "what is actually working in this snapshot." Sorting by usage answers "what are people playing." Sorting by win rate without the Wilson penalty will surface lucky small samples. Use it knowing that.

What it cannot be

It cannot be "the true strength of this deck in Clash Royale." The sample is Path of Legends leaderboard logs, a bounded window, not a census and not a seven-day history. A mid-ladder stomp list will not be rated here. A challenge specialist will not either, until a challenge segment exists with enough games.
